Nurse Quality

Grade: A

To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home an A for its nursing grade. The nursing category is based on several datapoints, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of turning a resident more frequently.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also was elite in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a score of A-. Only a select group of nursing homes received a better grade in this category. When facilities receive this type of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for patient care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This facility also received excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our best grades in that area, with an A-. Our inspection ratings are based on many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this area have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final area we rated was short-term care. This nursing home received a better than average short-term care score in our assessment, with a grade of B-. Although this was not as strong as several of its other scores, this is nevertheless an acceptable score for this area. With our short-term care assessment, we strive to create a valuable measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. We were not able to locate information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.7 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
