Nurse Quality
To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home an A for its nursing grade. The nursing category is based on several datapoints, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of turning a resident more frequently.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was elite in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a score of A-. Only a select group of nursing homes received a better grade in this category. When facilities receive this type of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for patient care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
