Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To pair with its relatively modest overall grade, we gave this facility an A for our inspections rating. This is far better than the facility's overall score. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this area typically have few severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this nursing home's better category grades came in the category of long-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B. It actually performed better than most facilities in this category. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After considering the amount of nursing care, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 94.70589 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia can be a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Additionally, we gave this facility a rock-bottom F in the category of short-term care. With our short-term care assessment, we seek to forge a meaningful measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. With a grade of this caliber in this area, we weren't stunned to learn this nursing home was below average in multiple staffing areas we focus on. The nursing home provided significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 5.3 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The last area we analyzed was nursing. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this area, which is an abysmal grade. This is obviously a significant concern. Our nursing rating analyzes quite a few factors, most of which are based on nursing hours. With only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were well below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This place fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
