Medical Staff Hours Per Patient (2019)
Nurse Quality
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. There are several subcategories within this grade. Most of these datapoints reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This place provides an incredible 6 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Out of this total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing impressive levels of nursing care, this place also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed as well as any nursing home in Michigan in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
This first-rate nursing home also performed well in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a score of A+. Few facilities fared better in this area. In our short-term care score, we seek to create a fair gauge for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze a facility's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return home from this nursing home. This place outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes with 75.1 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Another strength for this nursing home was long-term care, where it was given an A+ score. This is simply as elite as it gets in this area. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After looking at the significant amount of nursing hours and other staffing provided by this nursing home, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 99 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
This facility also earned a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with a score of A+. This wrapped up an outstanding report card of straight A+'s. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
