Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor dings aren't the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home truly excelled in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a score of A-. Very few facilities performed better in this area. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a deadly ailment for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility does not roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also gave this nursing home a respectable grade in the area of short-term care, with a B-. Our short-term care grade is generally used to measure a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation To have highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Unfortunately, it does not look like this nursing home provided information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 6.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Switching gears to our fourth category, we awarded this nursing home a D in our nursing category. This is the facility's worst category grade. Of course, this score pulled down the nursing home's overall grade a bit. Our nursing rating looks at the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of training of those nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This place offered a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This number is significantly below average. Although this nursing home's nursing hours were below average, it actually surprised us in some of the qualitative areas in this category. In particular, we were pleased to see that its patients appear to be sustaining fewer pressure ulcers than most nursing homes.
