Short-term Care Quality
We gave this facility one of our higher grades in the area of short-term care, where it received an A+. This is notably better than the nursing home's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. Short-term care grades are based on the facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who returned home from this nursing home. This place outperformed the vast majority of facilities with 66.2 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility an A-. Our nursing grade is primarily tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place provides an incredible 4.1 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Out of that total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing high levels of care, this place also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. With below 5 percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is usually an indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Many pressure ulcers could be avoided by providing better nursing care and a system of turning residents more frequently.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's second worse score is long-term care, where it earned just a D in that category. This is a relatively poor score. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. After assessing nursing hours and other staffing provided by this facility, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. Due to its grade in this category, it is surprising to find that this nursing home performed reasonably well both statistics. In fact, this facility vaccinated 99.53704 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.7 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
Facility Inspections
Moving on our last category of inspections, we gave this facility a grade of just D. This turned out to be this nursing home's worst grade and it really pulled its overall grade down. Our inspection rating is based on the nursing home's government inspections. Since the data is collected by government inspectors, we weight it heavily in overall grade. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. This particular nursing home was assessed 7 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they created a risk to resident safety or health. Finally, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this place was assessed large government fines in recent years amounting to over $100,000. This typically suggests that a nursing home's bad performance spanned multiple years.
