Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our inspections rating. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some can be quite minor. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.
Nurse Quality
Building on its strong performance in other areas, we gave this nursing home an B+ for our nursing rating. The nursing category weighs quite a few factors, most of which are based on quantities of nurse staffing. This facility offers extremely high levels of nursing care, averaging 4.1 hours per patient daily. This is more nursing care than nearly any other place offers. Lastly, this facility also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, in terms of the number of its residents sustaining falls which lead to major injury, this facility performed as well as any nursing home in the country. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was awarded an impressive long-term care score as well. We gave it one of our higher scores in that area with a score of B+. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is usually a good sign for resident care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to looking at the impressive level of care provided by nurses and other staff at this nursing home, we also were happy with the facility's vaccination record. By way of example, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 3.25 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this wasn't as impressive as some of its other scores in this category, this figure can be skewed for some nursing homes based on the medical complexity of patients.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our fourth area, this facility was awarded a highly favorable short-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B+ in that category, completing one of our better report cards. Our short-term care ratings are meaningful for individuals looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes more skilled nursing services. This includes a broad range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is usually a favorable sign. Finally, we looked at the number of patients that were able to return home from this facility. We found that 40.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
