Facility Inspections

Grade: A

The main reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection score. In fact, its inspection score was far superior to its overall grade. In our inspections category, we gave this facility an A. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility also was given a positive score in our long-term care category. We gave this nursing home an above average grade of B+ in that category. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is typically a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 97.04142 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a life threatening illness for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility doesn't leave this to chance. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. The nursing grade weighs quite a few subcategories, but the primary consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, nursing grades also factor in quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this facility performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a reliable indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses to assist its patients.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last area we scored is short-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's worst category. It received a lowly F in this category, which is clearly a major concern. In determining our short-term care ratings, we analyze a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This category is frequently a useful measure of a facility's rehabilitation services. Unfortunately, we discovered that this nursing home provides fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 4 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
