Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Inspection grades are tied to items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this category have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. Nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an A-. Our nursing grade assesses several subcategories, many of which are associated with nursing hours. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The next category we looked at was short-term care. This facility received a favorable short-term care score, with a grade of B+ in the category. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services In order to offer highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we considered in this category is the number of residents who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The final area we graded was long-term care. This nursing home was given an above average nursing score in our assessment, with a grade of B. Even though this is not as strong as several of its other grades, this is nevertheless one of our better scores for that area. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is often a deadly health condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
