Registered Staff Hours
Long-term Care Quality
Although we were not high on this nursing home overall, we gave it a B- for our long-term care rating. This score is more respectable than its overall score. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 92.95775 percent of its residents. This is slightly less than we anticipated but still a reasonably acceptable figure. On a more positive note, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of B-. The nursing grade features a host of subcategories. The most heavily weighted one is the number of hours nurses spent with patients. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this facility performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is typically a good indicator that a facility has quality controls in place.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given its next most favorable category score in the category of short-term care. We awarded this nursing home a C in this area, which is a respectable score. In computing these short-term care grades, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who returned home from this nursing home. We found that 4.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well below average.
Facility Inspections
The last category we assessed was inspections. This facility didn't receive favorable government inspections in recent years. Consequently, we had to give it an F. With facilities that received this bad of an inspection grade, we would scrutinize the severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This particular nursing home was hit with 8 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they caused a threat to resident health or safety. Lastly, we also want to point out that this nursing home received significant government fines amounting to over $100,000. This generally means that a nursing home's poor track record has been an issue for multiple years.
