Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this place ended up being a quality nursing home is that it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical area. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Unfortunately, we were not able to locate deficiency data for this facility. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This exemplary nursing home also excelled in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A+. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. In computing our nursing grades, we weigh both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving a resident more often.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we looked at was short-term care. We gave this facility an acceptable score in that category, with a C. Although this was not as strong as many of its other grades, it is nevertheless not a bad grade. In determining our short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this nursing home provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 3.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
