Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this nursing home really outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in this category with an A+. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, we gave this nursing home a grade of B in our short-term care category. This is one of our better grades. Short-term care grades are vital for patients seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is usually a favorable sign. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 35 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
In addition, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B in our nursing category. This is one of our better grades. The nursing score includes quite a few factors, many of which are based on quantities of nurse staffing. This place provides an impressive 2.9 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Of this total, more than one fourth of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. We apply more weight to hours provided by skilled nurses in calculating our nursing scores. Finally, we also factored a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This nursing home was relatively weak in two of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's least impressive category was long-term care, which is the final category we assessed. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this category. Even with some acceptable grades in other categories, this score is nevertheless disappointing so we felt obligated to draw your attention to it. If you are seeking services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 97.28916 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.67 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
