One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Our inspection ratings are based on datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this category typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Among its many dominant scores, this facility was given a top-shelf long-term care grade. In fact, it received a grade of A in this area. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B+. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. We looked at the levels of nurses employed by the facility, as well as the number of hours the nurses spent with patients, in computing our rating in this category. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Turning to the last category, this nursing home was awarded a highly favorable short-term care score. We gave it a grade of B+ in that category, rounding out one of our more favorable profiles. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that returned home from this nursing home.
