Long-term Care Quality
Even though this facility's overall grade was terrible, it actually didn't perform quite as poorly in the area of long-term care. We gave it a grade of B- for that category, which isn't bad. Unfortunately, this was not enough to spare its otherwise weak profile. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours was vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 91.15646 percent of its residents. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility received a decent nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. There are several subcategories included in this area. Many of these criteria reflect nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a relatively low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, while this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of our quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this area.

Facility Inspections
Sadly, this facility received a grade of just D in our inspection category. This is well below average grade. Our inspection scores weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Generally, you should be more cautious when considering a facility that has severe deficiencies on its inspection reports. This particular nursing home was assessed 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they posed a risk to resident safety or health. Finally, we also want to point out that this nursing home was assessed large government fines recently of more than $100,000. This typically signifies that a bad track record has been an issue for several years.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we looked at was short-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this category, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. In determining our short-term care ratings, we analyze a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This category is considered to be a useful assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Considering its grade in this category, we were not stunned to find that this facility is well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 3.2 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
