Facility Inspections
On top of being a strong nursing home overall, this place really excelled in our inspections category, where it earned a grade of A. Not many nursing homes performed better in that category. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this area tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. This place received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate threat to resident health or safety. A couple relatively minor dings are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given a favorable long-term care grade as well. We gave it one of our better scores in that category with a score of B. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. Once we concluded our assessment of the amount of nursing care, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 99.723755 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a life or death ailment for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at is short-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a C. Our short-term care grades are critical for people in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires more highly-skilled nursing. This means a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the number of residents that returned home from the facility. We found that just 3.8 percent of this facility's patients returned home. This figure was below the national average.
