Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To pair with its strong overall score, we awarded this facility an A for the area of inspections. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this nursing home also received favorable short-term care scores in our assessment. Indeed, we awarded it one of our better grades in that area, with a score of B+. Short-term care grades are typically employed to judge a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to provide highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Unfortunately, we weren't able to find information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The final statistic we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that 5.6 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Turning to the category of nursing care, this facility didn't perform quite as well in this area as some of the categories discussed above. Nevertheless, a grade of B- in this category is by no means a bad score. Our nursing grade includes a number of subcategories. The most heavily weighted factor is the quantity of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics. While this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this statistic. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of turning a patient more frequently.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last area we rated was long-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of C. Our long-term care grade is often used to score a nursing home's performance as a traditional nursing home, as opposed to focusing more on the skilled nursing services offered by a rehabilitation facility. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 99.612404 percent of its patients. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
