Facility Inspections
We also wanted to point out that this nursing home has received near flawless health inspections recently. We gave them an A+ in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite minor. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also want to note the fact that this nursing home was awarded a dominant grade of A- in our long-term care area. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is far higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the last category, this nursing home was given a strong short-term care rating. We awarded it a grade of B+ in this category, wrapping up one of our more favorable profiles. In our short-term care grade, we try to create a fair measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this facility provided data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.1 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
