Facility Inspections
The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall score is its impeccable health inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our higher grades in that area, with an A+. This is a much better grade than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but not in the elite range. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor dings are not necessarily something to panic about.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was awarded a strong score in our long-term care category. We gave this facility a better than average grade of B in this area. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 93.04813 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is slightly below what we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. The last statistic we assessed is the facility's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 2.63 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. Our nursing rating analyzes the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of licensure of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home provides 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in some quality-focused statistics. Specifically, we look at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we scored is short-term care. Sadly, it received an F for this area, which is a very poor grade. This is certainly a major concern. Short-term care ratings are critical for residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 28.1 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
