Medical Staff Hours Per Patient (2019)
Nurse Quality
In addition to a phenomenal overall grade, this facility also received A+ nursing grade. Our nursing rating weighs many components, many of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This place provides an impressive 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Of this total, more than one quarter of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. We add more weight to hours provided by skilled nurses in calculating our nursing scores. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility Illinois in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of turning residents at least once a day.
Long-term Care Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a score of A+ for its long-term care grade. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 98.78049 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.42 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
Facility Inspections
Amazingly, we also awarded this nursing home yet another A+ in the area of inspections. Our inspection ratings are tied to many datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this category tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we graded is short-term care. We gave this nursing home one of our more favorable grades in this category, with a B. Even though this was not as strong as many of this nursing home's other scores, it is still a perfectly acceptable score. Short-term care grades are critical for people in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more skilled nursing services. This includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 15.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
