Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this nursing home really outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best scores in this area with an A. Our inspection grades are based on many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to be an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also received high marks in the category of long-term care, with high-end grade of A in this category. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in this category typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are well cared for. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly can be a life threatening illness for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. With 1.91 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility is close to average in this area.
Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only earned a grade of D for its short-term care grade, which is not an impressive grade. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This grade is considered to be a reliable assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. Unfortunately, we found that this place provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the facility. This nursing home a bit in this area as well, with just 48.6 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to our fourth category, we gave this facility a grade of D in the area of nursing. This is the facility's least impressive category grade. Of course, this score pulled down the facility's overall grade a bit. We analyzed the licensure of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the quantity of hours those nurses worked with patients, in computing our score in this area. This nursing home provides 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is slightly below average. In addition to its weak nursing hours, this place also received suboptimal scores in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing scores.
