Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home really excelled in the category of short-term care, where it received an A-. Few facilities performed better in this area. If it wasn't for this grade, this facility's overall score would have been much lower. In determining our short-term care grades, we look at a facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is typically a useful measure of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Unfortunately, it does not look like this facility submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

This facility's inspection grade also was quite a bit better than its overall grade. Due to a strong inspection report this year, it received one of our better scores in that category with a B. Inspection ratings are based on many datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this category have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Our last area is long-term care, in which we gave this nursing home a C in this area. In calculating our long-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
