While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received an impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an A-. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid nursing homes that had too many severe deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to be an immediate risk to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Turning to the category of short-term care, this nursing home was awarded a grade of just D in this area. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of its better features. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be most meaningful for those in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. With its score in this category, we weren't surprised to discover that this place was well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the measures we looked at. Frankly, this was about what we expected here. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. Our nursing score analyzes a handful of datapoints, most of which are tied to nursing hours. This facility provided just 2.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Unfortunately, this nursing home also had terrible marks in some of the quality-based measures to go along with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percent of residents suffering pressure ulcers and we were very disappointed. This facility was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this measure.

The next category we assessed was long-term care. We gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is a poor score. Nursing homes that don't fare well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in a few of the areas of routine healthcare services we looked at. One of the data points we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Frankly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 60.305347 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.68 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
