While this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it actually really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that area, which is one of our highest scores. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid places with a list of severe deficiencies flagged. While this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Turning to the category of long-term care, this facility was awarded a grade of just D in that area. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of its better features. When facilities receive this type of grade in long-term care it is often a bad sign for resident care and it may indicate that the place is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. We were disappointed to learn that this facility vaccinated just 43.60902 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this facility was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. There are quite a few criteria within this grade. Many of these datapoints reflect staffing levels. This facility averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Moving on to the fourth category, this facility really did not perform very well in this area either. With an abysmal grade of F in short-term care, this is just about as as uninspiring as it gets. Our short-term care ratings are critical for people needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Given its weak grade in this area, we weren't surprised to find that this facility offered substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely was not a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most facilities, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
