Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Even though we gave this nursing home a terrible overall score, we gave it a C for our nursing category. The nursing rating consists of several datapoints, many of which are based on nursing hours. This facility provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally an indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our long-term care rating and that actually turned out to be its next best score. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this nursing home also keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.04 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Tragically, we gave this facility an F for its short-term care score. Short-term care grades are vital for people requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a broad spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Considering its score in this category, we were not stunned to learn that this place is well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the figures we assessed. Honestly, this was about what we expected to find. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 1.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

Turning our final category of inspections, this facility received an F here. Since this information is collected by independent government inspectors, we heavily weight negative feedback in this area. For nursing homes with poor inspection ratings, you should scrutinize any severe deficiencies found on their recent inspection reports. This particular nursing home was hit with 5 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they posed a risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility also received 29 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
