Long-term Care Quality
Even though we gave this facility an awful overall grade, we awarded it a B for our long-term care rating. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 94.71366 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a life threatening condition for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility does not roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of B-. In determining our nursing grades, we analyze both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This place provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a somewhat uninspiring figure which is well below average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics. Although this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of these quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this subcategory. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning residents at least once a day.

Facility Inspections
We wanted to point out this facility's inspection rating where it received a lowly F. We would advise paying special attention to any deficiencies on a facility's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection score. We recommend you scrutinize the level of severity of those deficiencies. Tragically, this nursing home was assessed several category J through L deficiencies. This indicates widespread deficiencies placing patient health or safety in imminent danger. Deficiencies in this category are very damaging to a nursing home's inspection grade. Lastly, we need to point out that this nursing home was assessed large government fines in recent years totaling more than $100,000. This usually suggests that a nursing home's bad performance has been an issue for several years.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we rated is short-term care. This facility received a very poor grade of F in that area. In our short-term care category, we strive to forge a valuable barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at a facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. With a grade of this caliber for this category, we weren't stunned to find that this nursing home was well below average in two of the key staffing figures we looked at. It supplied significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
