Facility Inspections
On top of having a decent overall rating, we also wanted to point out that this place received favorable government inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better grades in that category, with a grade of B+. This is a much better score than the facility's overall score. Inspection grades weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category usually have few of these severe deficiencies. This facility received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies an immediate risk to resident safety or health. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, we gave this nursing home a grade of B in our long-term care category. This is one of our more impressive scores. When nursing homes receive this kind of score in this category it is typically a good sign for resident care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this nursing home had 4.71 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this wasn't as favorable as most of its other scores in this area, this number may be skewed for some nursing homes due to the preexisting medical conditions of residents.
Nurse Quality
The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. When determining our nursing grades, we weigh both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This facility performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these metrics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at was short-term care, which turned out to be a low point for this nursing home. We gave this nursing home a D for short-term care. Short-term care grades are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a vast spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Based on its grade in this category, we were not shocked to find that this nursing home was well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse hours offered to its residents. Frankly, this was about what we expected here. The final item we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area, with just 9.3 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
