We awarded this facility an A- for our short-term care grade. This is much more impressive than its overall grade. Our short-term care grades are likely most critical for those in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional highly-skilled nursing services. This means not just nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, we found that this nursing home provided respectable levels of physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This place outperformed the majority of facilities in the nation in this area with 52.2 percent of its residents returning home. This is a higher rate than most nursing homes.

This facility also received a strong inspection score. Inspection grades are based on the nursing home's recent health inspections. We gave this facility an above average grade of B in this category. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident health or safety. A couple relatively minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

This nursing home also received a strong nursing grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B in that category, which is one of our better scores. Our nursing grade focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of training of those nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

The final area we rated is long-term care. We gave this nursing home a C in this category. For patients seeking a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is more than most nursing homes. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.16 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
