Although we gave this facility a poor overall score, we gave it a fairly respectable score in our short-term care rating, where it received a B-. This was certainly better than its other grades. In forming these short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to create a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is usually a favorable sign. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.2 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. Our nursing rating is mostly tied to a facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. Although this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of these quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this subcategory. This can be an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of turning a resident at least once a day.

This facility earned mediocre inspections in recent years. We gave them a C in this category. Inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This tells you that it avoided the more significant classes of deficiencies. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.

Frankly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to a relatively low 76.42857 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best score in this category.
