While this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. We would argue that one of the most important factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially focus on the severity of those deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B- for its short-term care rating, which is not too bad of a score. In computing our short-term care grades, we size up the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This category is considered to be a meaningful measure of the facility's rehabilitation services. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than a typical facility. The hope is that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. Finally, we considered the number of residents who ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually well below the national average.

This facility's next best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. There are several datapoints within this area. Most of these datapoints reflect levels of nurse staffing. This facility averaged just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This figure is quite a bit below the national average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these metrics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

The last category we looked at is long-term care, which turned out to be a weak spot for this nursing home. We gave this facility a grade of just D for our long-term care category. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it typically means the nursing home did not perform well in our quality measures relating to resident care. Once we concluded our assessment of the volume of nursing care, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated only 70.20408 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best score in this category.
