Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this place especially excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A. Few facilities performed better in this area. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to create an immediate risk to resident safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to this nursing home's list of strengths, it also received an excellent nursing grade. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this category. Our nursing rating is mostly based on the facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning patients at least once a day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next best category we gave this nursing home in any category came in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a B-. Our long-term care grade is typically used to score a facility's performance as a traditional convalescent home, as opposed to focusing more on the skilled nursing services provided by a rehabilitation facility. Once we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. We were pleased to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. This place keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Moving on to our next area, this nursing home was given a respectable short-term care grade. Although this was not nearly as dominant as several of its other category grades, this is really nothing to be ashamed of. In our short-term care assessment, we seek to create a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Unfortunately, we weren't able to track down registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
