Facility Inspections
On top of being a great nursing home overall, it also earned A+ inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually perfect. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category tend to have few severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility an A+. Nursing scores are based largely on quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility also excelled in the category of long-term care, where it received a score of A. Not many facilities fared better in this area. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. This is a great way to minimize unnecessary hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
The fourth category we rated was short-term care, where this nursing home was given a grade of A-. This completed a very strong profile. Few nursing homes earned an A- or better in all four categories. Our short-term care grade is often employed to grade a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To have good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
