Facility Inspections

Grade: C

While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of C. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility had 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were in categories G through L. This indicates that it avoided the more serious classes of deficiencies. Finally, we need to note that this place has been assessed government fines in recent years. We were relieved to find that these fines were not on the high end as government fines go. That said, this is not what you hoped to see.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this nursing home's next most respectable score was long-term care. However, with a grade of D in this category, it still fared relatively poorly. Facilities that receive this type of score in long-term care may not provide the kind of consistent around the clock care that some other facilities provide. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. As it turns out, this nursing home vaccinated just 72.432434 percent of its residents, which is a bit of a concern. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

We were stunned to find that this facility also excelled in the area of nursing. We awarded it an D for that category, which is one of our highest scores. The nursing rating is based on several components, but the main one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This place averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This facility performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final area we assessed was short-term care, where this facility received a bottom of the barrel grade here also. We gave it a lowly F for this area, which is definitely a major disappointment. Short-term care grades are commonly used to score a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To provide high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. With its weak rating in this area, we were not stunned to discover that this nursing home provides far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. The last statistic we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics sunk this nursing home's short-term care score.
