Registered Staff Hours
In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Our inspection scores weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically have few severe deficiencies. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
We also awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Nursing scores are primarily tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning patients at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed is short-term care. This nursing home was superb in our short-term care rating as well. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Our short-term care scores are critical for individuals requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a broad scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we looked at in this area is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that 6.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Long-term Care Quality
In our last area, we gave this facility an A+ for our long-term care score. This finished off a very favorable profile. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. One of the factors we considered after nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. This is a proven method to avoid unnecessary deaths for the senior population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
