Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a great facility overall, it also received A+ health inspections recently. Its inspections were virtually perfect. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This facility also was given an A+ for its short-term care grade. In our short-term care grade, we endeavor to craft a valuable measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at a facility's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 7.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

The next category we looked at was long-term care. Adding to its dominant resume, this nursing home also performed well in this area. In fact, it received a of A in that category. In a long-term care setting, the primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Unfortunately, we were not able to track down information about this nursing home's vaccination rates. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Turning to the fourth area, this facility also performed well in the nursing category. In fact, we gave it an A in this area. This wrapped up a straight A report card. Our nursing score considers many subcategories. The most important factor is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
