Inspection scores are based on many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this category typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to point out the fact that this facility performed remarkably in our short-term care rating. We gave them an elite score of A+ in this category. Short-term care ratings are crucial for patients seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This means a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This facility is the gold standard in terms of skilled nursing staffing. It provided roughly one and a half times as many physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical facility. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy staffing, we found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in the nation with 66.2 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning the page to our third category, this first-rate nursing home also fared very well in the area of long-term care. In this category, we gave it a grade of A+. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Unfortunately, we were not able to locate this place's vaccination data. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
In the last category we rated, this facility was given an impressive grade grade of A in our nursing category. With this grade, the nursing home finished off a straight A report card. Our nursing rating assesses the facility's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home boasts a really impressive 9.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, of which a significant portion was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to offering impressive levels of care, this place also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any nursing home in the country when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these data points as reliable measures of the quality of nursing care provided.
