Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our short-term care category. In computing our short-term care ratings, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to devise a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 6 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Facility Inspections
Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Our inspection grades are based on pieces of information found on the a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. When computing a nursing home's nursing score, we look at the amount of time nurses are seeing patients and the level of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place Oregon in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning patients at least once a day.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed was long-term care, in which this nursing home was given a C. This proved to be this nursing home's worst area. This is still not the end of the world. In computing our long-term care scores, we assess the personal care received by a nursing home's patients. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this facility gave the vaccine to a relatively low 90.21739 percent of its residents. Nevertheless, this place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
