One of the reasons this turned out to be a strong nursing home is that it earned an impressive inspection rating. Inspections turned out to be its best category grade. In that area, we gave this facility an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively minor. This nursing home was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This indicates that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies an immediate threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of long-term care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that category, with a grade of B+. When facilities receive this type of score in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses and aids. After looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 97.98387 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

This facility also received a favorable short-term care grade. Indeed, we gave it an above average score of B in this area. In forming our short-term care ratings, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Unfortunately, we weren't able to track down registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

The next area we looked at was nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a B-. We analyzed the skill-level of nurses employed by the facility, as well as the number of hours the nurses worked with residents, in computing our rating in this category. This nursing home provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a somewhat concerning figure as it is well below average. Finally, our nursing grades also consider quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally an indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Many falls could be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses aids to assist its residents.
