On top of receiving a strong overall score, this facility also received an elite short-term care grade. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with an A-. Our short-term care scores are presumably more important for residents in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. Nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility an A-. Nursing scores are based in large part on quality and quantity of nursing care. This facility provided 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

In addition, this nursing home received a very good government inspection report this year as well. It received one of our better grades in that area with a grade of B. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this area generally have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor dings aren't necessarily the end of the world.
