Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Even though this facility's overall grade was terrible, it actually performed well in long-term care. In fact, we gave it a grade of B for that area, which is a solid grade. This is one of the only good things we can write about this nursing home. For patients looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 90.26218 percent of its patients. This is a few points less than we anticipated. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. While it had 2.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was better than most facilities due to it having some more complicated patients.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home really excelled in nursing, where it earned a grade of C. Few places performed better in this area. Nursing grades are mostly based on a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 3.2 hours of nursing care per patient daily, which is well below average. Finally, we also baked a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This nursing home was subpar in a few of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its patients' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are often reliable measures of the quality of nursing care provided.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility only earned a D for its short-term care grade, which is not a score to write home about. In the category of short-term care, we seek to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The final metric we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 42 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

Moving on the last category of inspections, this nursing home fared very poorly. It received an F in our inspection rating. This is the most heavily weighted category in our grading system. We would advise paying special attention to any deficiencies on a facility's inspection reports when it receives this bad of an inspection rating. We would scrutinize the severity of the deficiencies. This particular facility was assessed a category G through L deficiency, which rank among the more serious categories of deficiencies. This generally indicates that the deficiencies found by the government inspectors had potential to create actual harm to residents. Finally, we would like to point out that this nursing home was assessed significant government fines in recent years of over $100,000. This often means that a bad track record has been an issue for multiple years.
