To pair with its favorable overall score, we awarded this facility an A+ for our inspections rating. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively minor. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

An additional strong feature for this nursing home is that it was given an above average short-term care score. Indeed, this turned out to be its second best category score. In this area, we gave this facility a grade of B+. In the category of short-term care, we seek to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who returned home from this facility. This place outperformed most nursing homes in the country with 55.4 percent of its residents returning home.

This facility also received a favorable long-term care score. In fact, we gave it an above average score of B+ in this area. Facilities that excel in long-term care tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 99.42419 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous illness for nursing home residents so we like it when a facility does not roll the dice on this issue. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.57 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than most nursing homes.

Moving on to our fourth area, we gave this nursing home a grade of D in the area of nursing. This is the facility's least impressive category score. Of course, this score hurt the nursing home's overall profile to some degree. In determining our nursing grades, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of the nurses. This nursing home provided a meager 3.1 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is an alarmingly low total. Although this place didn't excel in nursing hours, it actually surprised us in some of the quality-based assessments in the nursing category, such as avoiding major falls. This place was above average in this metric, which is one redeeming quality we found in this category.
