Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to performing well overall, this nursing home also earned nearly flawless government inspections. Therefore, it received one of our best scores in that category with an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively minor. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another one of this nursing home's above average category grades came in the category of long-term care. We gave them one of our higher scores in that category, with a grade of B+. Facilities that receive this type of score in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are kept in good health. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to an additional strength for this nursing home, we awarded them one of our stronger scores in our short-term care category as well, with a grade of B+. Short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 5.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The last area we graded was nursing, where this nursing home was given a grade of B. While this ended up being its worst category rating, this is still a favorable rating. Our nursing score includes many components, most of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
