After assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

We also awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. We assessed the levels of nurses at the facility, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses spent with patients, in calculating our rating in this category. This nursing home provides 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Turning to our fourth area, this nursing home also excelled in our short-term care category. In fact, we gave it a grade of A for that category. This wrapped up a straight A report card. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize a facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is considered to be a meaningful measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
