Facility Inspections
This nursing home earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless government inspection reports in recent years. We gave them an A in this category. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also performed well in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A-. Very few nursing homes fared better in this area. When facilities receive this type of score in long-term care it is a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 96.55173 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a proven method to minimize unnecessary hospitalizations for the nursing home population. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
The third category we assessed is short-term care. This nursing home's received an abysmal short-term care grade where it was given a lowly F. Short-term care grades are vital for patients seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires more highly-skilled nursing. This means a vast scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this place offers significantly less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than a typical facility. The last metric we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics sunk this facility's short-term care grade.
Nurse Quality
The final category we scored was nursing, which was this nursing home's weakest area. We gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is certainly concerning. In computing our nursing scores, we assess both staffing levels and the training levels of those nurses. This place offered a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home.
