Short-term Care Quality
We awarded this facility an A- for our short-term care rating. This score is much more impressive than the facility's overall grade. In the area of short-term care, we try to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 6 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also performed well in inspections. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an B+. Our inspection grades are tied to many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Places that receive favorable grades in this category have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This means the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Nurse Quality
The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. The nursing grade is based on quite a few subcategories, most of which are based on quantities of nurse staffing. This place provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a low total compared with most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures. While this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of these quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it did well in this subcategory. This is often an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a policy of turning a resident more frequently.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed is long-term care. It received a lowly F for this area, which is a rock bottom grade. This is certainly a significant concern. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 98.7539 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
