Long-term Care Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it earned a very impressive long-term care rating. In this category, we awarded this facility an A-. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. One of the factors we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. This is a great way to minimize unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the nursing home population. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A-. Nursing ratings are largely based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of turning patients even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility also performed well in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Short-term care ratings are vital for people requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final statistic we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Turning to our inspection category, this facility excelled in that area, which is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. We awarded it an A- for that category. This topped off this place's straight A report card. Our inspection grades account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this area usually have few severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
