Facility Inspections
While this facility's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A+ for that category, which is one of our best scores. Our inspection ratings are tied to several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that we have information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Without having complete information regarding deficiencies for this nursing home, it was difficult to really assess the place in terms of this category.
Long-term Care Quality
This facilities second best area was long-term care. We gave it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the road score in this area. Long-term care grades are typically used to grade a facility's performance as a traditional convalescent home, as opposed to focusing more on the skilled nursing services offered by a rehabilitation facility. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is more than most nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.28 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of C, which is a decent grade. We weighed the licensure of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the number of hours those nurses worked with patients, in calculating our score in this area. This facility provides only 3.1 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a somewhat concerning figure which is well below average. Lastly, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our last category, this nursing home really did not perform well. Due to a very poor grade of F in short-term care, this is this facility's weakest area. Short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a vast scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Considering its abysmal rating in this category, we weren't surprised to learn that this nursing home provided significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. The last item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 30.1 percent of its residents returning home.
