Registered Staff Hours
This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this category. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. This is certainly an excellent sign for the quality of care at this nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's higher category scores came in the category of long-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B. It actually performed better than most nursing homes in this area. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. One of the factors we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a reliable method to avoid negative health outcomes for the nursing home population. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. Although it had 2.42 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was close to the national average due to it having some more complicated patients.

Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing score. We gave this nursing home an D. Our nursing score assesses the facility's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This place averaged only 3.2 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. In addition to receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this facility was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and found this facility was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this metric.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the final category, we awarded this facility a grade of D in short-term care. This is the facility's weakest category rating. Our short-term care grades are based on the facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. We found that this facility was subpar in the two key staffing areas we assessed. The facility offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. The last item we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed better in this area, with 49.2 percent of its patients returning home.
