Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless government inspection reports in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this category. Inspection scores are based on several pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this area typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. This is definitely a great sign for the quality of care at this facility.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's second most favorable category was long-term care. We gave it a grade of B- in this area. This is basically a middle of the road score in this category. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care grades. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is more than the average nursing home. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. There are a number of datapoints within this grade. Many of the factors relate to nurse staffing. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Turning to our final area, this facility really didn't fare well. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is its weakest area. In computing our short-term care grades, we scrutinize a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This score is considered to be a reliable measure of a facility's rehabilitation services. Based on its score in this category, we were not stunned to discover that this facility was well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the figures we assessed. Frankly, this was about what we expected here. Lastly, we considered the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
