Although this facility's overall grade was rock bottom, it didn't perform as poorly in the area of nursing. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B- for this category. Our nursing grade is largely based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, while this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of our quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it did very well in this subcategory.

Remarkably, we gave this facility a grade of C for our short-term care rating, which isn't too bad of a score. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The key is determining what bearing this had on the quality of care. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that were able to return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below average.

Moving on to the category of long-term care, this nursing home received just a D in this category. In a long-term care environment, the primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this facility gave the vaccine to 99.31507 percent of its patients, which is an above average figure. To our surprise, this facility also keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

In the final category of inspections, this facility really did not fare well. It received an F in our inspection rating. For places with poor inspection grades, you should focus on any severe deficiencies found on their inspection reports. This nursing home had 8 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they created a threat to patient health or safety. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.
