Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

To pair with its strong overall score, we gave this facility an A- for short-term care. Our short-term care grades are vital for people in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more skilled nursing. This means a wide spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we considered in this area is the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that 5.6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Adding to its impressive category grades, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B+ for our inspections rating. Inspection ratings are tied to many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. This wasn't quite as good as some of its other scores, but a grade in this range is not the end of the world. Our nursing grade weighs many components, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, nursing grades also consider quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually a good indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses aids to assist its residents.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Our next area is long-term care, in which we awarded this nursing home a grade of C in this area. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. One of the data points we considered on top of nurse's aid hours was vaccines. Fortunately, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 98.181816 percent of its patients. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
