We awarded this nursing home an impressive grade of A for our short-term care score. This is far more impressive than the nursing home's overall grade. In computing our short-term care scores, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. This nursing home is the gold standard when it comes to skilled nursing staffing. It provided roughly one and a half times as many physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical facility. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that were able to return home from the facility. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in Illinois in this area with 57.4 percent of its patients returning home. With most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.

Inspections is another category where this nursing home excelled. In fact, we awarded this facility an B+ for our inspections rating. This grade is far more impressive than its overall score. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this area generally have very few severe deficiencies. This facility was assessed 11 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. Nursing ratings are largely associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. According to staffing data, this facility averaged 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Roughly a quarter of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are among the most highly trained nurses. These are both above average figures. Finally, we also factored a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This facility was relatively weak in some of the datapoints we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its patients' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are usually good indicators of the quality of nursing care offered.

The final category we rated is long-term care, which was this nursing home's worst category. We gave this facility a D in this area. Unfortunately, this score hurt the facility's overall profile a bit. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. Although we determined this nursing home has a favorable volume of nursing hours provided by nurses and other nursing staff, we found its vaccine statistics to be somewhat lower than we expected. This nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to just 65.68627 percent of its residents. This is a statistic we'd love to see this facility improve on. Lastly, we were stunned by the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility fared very poorly with 3.6 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure is more than twice the national average.
