Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a score of A- for our short-term care score. Our short-term care grades are presumably most meaningful for folks needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional skilled nursing services. This includes not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. It fared as well as just about any facility in Florida in this area with 58.8 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. In calculating a facility's nursing score, we look at the amount of time nurses commit to residents and the levels of training of those nurses. This place provided 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is an impressive figure which typically leads to quality care. Finally, this place also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. In terms of the number of its residents suffering falls leading to major injury, this facility performed as well as any facility in the state.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we looked at was long-term care. This nursing home was given an impressive long-term care rating in our assessment, with a B-. Even though this wasn't quite as good as some of its other grades, this remains a respectable score for this area. For residents in need of a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. This facility's vaccination records weren't as favorable some of its other data points in this area, such as its nursing hours data. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 90.44368 percent of its patients. We'd love to see some improvement in this area next year. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. With 1.79 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility was also slightly below average.
