Facility Inspections
Although we did not rate this nursing home favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively favorable government inspections in recent years. We gave it a B+ in this area, which is much better than its overall grade. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some are quite minor. While this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of B-. Nursing ratings are largely associated with the facility's nurse staffing. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, although this place got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of our quality metrics. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed well in this subcategory.

Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the category of long-term care, this facility was awarded just a D in that area. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home vaccinated 98.52321 percent of its patients, which is an above average statistic. To our surprise, this facility also keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at was short-term care, which is this nursing home's worst category. We awarded this facility a D in that category. In computing our short-term care grades, we look at the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This rating is typically a useful measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation. Given its abysmal grade in this area, we were not surprised to learn this nursing home provides substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
