Facility Inspections

Grade: A

One of the reasons this place is a quality nursing home is that it earned an impressive inspection score. Inspections turned out to be its best category grade. In that area, we gave it a grade of A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. This facility was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies an imminent risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Contributing to this facility's list of achievements, it also received a fine long-term care score. We awarded them a dominant grade of A in this category. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. Once we concluded our assessment of the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a life threatening health condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't leave this to chance. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility also was given a favorable short-term care score. Indeed, we gave it an above average score of B in this area. Short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. We were not able to find registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. Finally, we considered the number of patients that were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The last area we looked at was this facility's worst category. However, even in its worst category we still gave it an acceptable grade of C in our nursing category. Our nursing rating is based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of licensure of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with residents. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This figure is far below the national average. Finally, we look at quality-based statistics, such as the percent of patients who suffered pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these metrics are indicators of the quality of nursing care.
